WINI Partners with the Scottish Women’s Convention
WINI Chair, CEO and Community Relations Coordinator went on a learning visit to Glasgow and Edinburgh at the beginning of September. The original purpose was to explore the SWC model on engagement with their Parliament. What we learnt was more far reaching than that.!!
Firstly we met with the SWC core staff and discovered that the organisation’s work was the same as WINI, getting information to women. What was different was the way in which they could use the feedback from women to influence policy and the Scottish Parliament
On the Tuesday we met with representatives of the women and women’s groups they worked with and the benefit of SWC form the women’s perceptive.
On the Wednesday we met with the Scottish Equality Unit in Edinburgh and learnt why, how and the benefit to the SEU in funding SWC. This was followed by a visit to the Scottish Parliament where we met with the labour MSP and attended a budget debate in the Chamber.
The learning and hospitality of all was amazing and we have come back enthused, positive and inspired. We cannot thank enough all of those who shared
their time and knowledge with us!
As a result of this visit, we are building a formal working partnership between WINI and SWC to enable both organisations to work collaboratively on a wide range of mutual issues for the benefit of all our women here in Northern Ireland and in Scotland.
Our thanks to Northern Ireland Community Relations Council who funded the visit.
