On this Information day, the focus was on Suicide awareness. Suicide affects all communities in N.I. particular Belfast which has a high rate of suicide amongst young people. The event was also to bring women together from across communities for networking, developing understanding of the issue of suicide and where support and help can be found for families and for people with suicide ideas. It also gave women form different communities the chance to discuss this serious issue in the context of their own experiences and those of their communities. The speaker Stuart Kirk form Lighthouse project introduced his organisation and their services and he talks also about Coping with suicide, Mental Health and which impact suicide has on individuals, families and communities.
Coping with suicide is very difficult for families communities alike and Stuart talked about self care, grieving, anniversaries, alcohol and memories. He spoke of the issues surrounding suicide like recognising the sign that someone may have suicide thoughts. Stuart spoke about the impact of suicide with relationships and communities giving some example of how people and communities deal with it. This session was very emotive and there were lots of questions for Stuart.
